Resistance training is KEY for long term weight loss.

I've heard it all, "I don't want to get big and bulky so i'm not going to lift weights". "Instead, I'm going to do hours of cardio and hope I lose my stubborn body fat". Now, let me tell you why this may be detrimental to your progression in the long run, especially if you are looking to lose body fat. Let me give you a scenario. Emma is looking to lose fat. She doesn't want to do weights because she thinks they will make her look "BULKY" so she just implements cardio. She's eating healthy, she has been smashing cardio for a very long period and weight loss has become less and less as the months have gone by. Suddenly she hits a brick wall. She loses all motivation, starts doing a bit less cardio and she starts piling on the weight again. She's very annoyed and confused why she can't keep the weight off she's worked hard for. Let me tell you why! The fact Emma didn't implement any resistance training (not even resistance band exercises), she has lost muscle tissue in the process and her metabolism has hit ROCK BOTTOM. As you lose more and more weight, your metabolism will adjust and become slower and slower. This is why it's difficult to lose the same amount of weight at the start of your journey as it is at the end of it. IF Emma would have implemented resistance training alongside her cardio regime, she would have held on to a good amount of muscle, meaning her metabolism down shift wouldn't have been so drastic and it wouldn't have taken so much effort for her to achieve her dream goal. Resistance training is VITAL for males and females if looking to lose body fat. It wont turn you into a mass monster, it'll help you maintain muscle tissue, keep metabolism firing and leave you with a physique that has less body fat and good amounts of muscle. So my advice, is to ensure you have a well thought out and specific resistance training plan once gyms open the you can implement alongside your nutrition plan and cardio regime. Lift heavy, attack sessions with intensity and leave everything on the gym floor.
